In memory of Professor Stephen McMahon

We are heartbroken. It’s so hard and incredulous to write about Steve in the past tense.

We have lost a mentor, an outstanding educator as well as an exceptional researcher, but most importantly we have lost a great friend. Stephen B. McMahon (1954-2021) was a giant in the field of pain research. He continuously inspired and challenged researchers to understand pain in the broadest and unconventional ways possible.

The 31st Annual ICRS Symposium on the Cannabinoids and the 1st virtual meeting

Last year has been very tough for social gatherings as well as for science conference’s. Most of them has been cancelled, including The 30th Annual International Cannabinoid Research Society Symposium on the Cannabinoids originally scheduled for July 4 – 9, 2020 in Galway, Ireland.

4TH Central European Biomedical Congress

On June, 7-9 2021 the 4th Central European Biomedical Congress (CEBC) was held online on the virtual platform. Previously planned for May 2020, the conference had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. „The Impact of bioinformatics and omics on biology and medicine” was the motto of the Congress.

Cannabinoid Education – everything you need to know!

Science is made to serve the people. In order to answer complex, troubling questions, scientists spend much of their time in laboratories, working on laborious, time-consuming experiments. If successful, they manage to push our understanding forward. However, if knowledge gained in the laboratory stays in the laboratory, it brings no value to society and loses its primal utility.

New Year Wishes

Wishing you all a healthy, restful, happy holiday season and a prosperous 2021!

Neuronus 2020 under special circumstances

Neuronus 2020 was supposed to be held in March 2020 in Cracow. Unfortunately, due to global COVID-19 pandemic, it was set on hold and eventually rescheduled to December (probably the last possible moment to keep 2020 part!). However, the second wave of infections hit the Europe in Autumn and the organizers had to prepare for online conference.

Nobel Medicine Prize 2020

For scientists, piecing the puzzle together may take many years of tedious labour. When the pieces finally click, it may be a breakthrough discovery, as it was for three laurates of 2020 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine – Harvey Alter from the US National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland; Michael Houghton, from the University of Alberta in Canada; and Charles Rice from the Rockefeller University in New York City; who discovered hepatitis C, a virus that causes hundreds of thousands of deaths a year.

FENS Virtual Forum of Neuroscience, 11-15 July 2020

Difficult times have come for the international conferences organizers. A whole series of meetings and conferences have been canceled all over the world due to COVID-19 pandemic. Fortunately, one of the largest international neuroscience meeting in Europe – The FENS Forum of Neuroscience – resisted pandemic and was held online.
