Holiday Spirits at the Pain Lab: Wrapping Up the Year

Even though our days at the Department of Neurochemistry are usually defined by rigorous experiments, complex data analysis, and the constant pursuit of understanding pain mechanisms, we know how important it is to simply pause and appreciate the people behind the science. From Varese to Kraków: A Scholar’s Journey Across Borders

Congratulations to Nicolò Bittoni on successfully completing his Master’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences at the Università degli Studi dell’Insubria! His thesis, entitled “The role of the striatum and inflammatory processes in chronic pain development in a rat model of osteoarthritis”, marks the culmination of an intensive and insightful research journey, part of which was conducted within our laboratory at the Maj Institute of Pharmacology, Polish Academy of Sciences in Kraków, under the Erasmus+ programme.

Reflections on the EFIC Pain School on Translational Pain Research in Krakow

The emotions have now settled a bit, and we are delighted to reflect on the recent 4th European Pain Federation Krakow Pain School on Translational Pain Research: From Lab to Clinic held in Krakow. The event was a tremendous success, characterized by a high scientific level and the active participation of wonderful lecturers. Both participants and faculty were extremely satisfied and impressed.

Highlights from Neuronus Neuroscience Forum 2024

On April 24-27, the Neuronus Neuroscience Forum 2024 took place, featuring PhD students Maciej Degutis and Magdalena Rak, as well as our Master’s student Mateusz, who presented their posters. The Neuronus Neuroscience Forum is an international scientific conference organized by students and young scientists associated with the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. It is one of the most significant scientific events in Poland, focusing on neuroscience and related scientific areas.

Nicolò – new intern in our team

By mid-April, we welcomed Nicolò Bittoni, a Master’s degree student from Italy currently studying Biomedical Sciences at the University of Insubria in Busto Arsizio (Italy). Nicolò started his internship at the IF PAN Maj Institute in Krakow and will remain a valuable contributor to our research projects until the end of January 2025.
