5th Central European Biomedical Congress

This week Krakow welcomed 361 scientists (252 in-person and 109 on-line) to the first in-person Central European Biomedical Congress since 2018, a reflection of the enthusiasm to meet up with colleagues from across Europe and beyond.

Here are some reflections and photos from the CEBC 2023.

Marta’s recent international fellowships

2022 and 2023 were full of research-related travel for Pain Lab members.

In memory of Professor Raphael Mechoulam, the father of cannabinoid research

It is with great sadness and painful heart to share that professor Raphael Mechoulam, the father of cannabinoid research, passed away on March 9, 2023.

Post-pandemic reunion in Ireland

It was a wonderful experience to be a part of the first ICRS in-person meeting since 2019! After a two-year pause in travel due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were finally able to meet at the 32nd Annual International Cannabinoid Research Society Symposium on the Cannabinoids!

Vetulani. A beautiful mind, wild at heart

Five years ago, on 6th of April 2017, prof. Jerzy Vetulani died as a results of fatal car accident. He published more than 240 original research papers and was one of the most cited Polish neuroscientists. His research, conducted together with Fridolin Sulser led to an interesting discovery that repeatedly administered antidepressants induce adaptive changes in the noradrenergic system and to formulate a hypothesis on the mechanism of action of antidepressant drugs suggesting “downregulation” of β-adrenergic receptors. His research interests included neuropharmacology of addiction, neurodegeneration and mechanisms of memory.

Green revolution in Polish drug enforcement law

Drug Enforcement Act from 24th of March 2022 was recently approved by Polish president, Andrzej Duda, after substantial changes from Polish Senate. New law allows for research institutions subjected to Polish Ministry of Agriculture to grow cannabis for medicinal purposes following the permission form the Chief Pharmaceutical Inspectorate.

WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO WIN A SCIENTIFIC JACKPOT? FEELS GREAT!

We are happy to share with you the latest success of Marta, our team member. The list of her successes at the end of 2021 is impressive.
