ERA-NET Neuron grant / PAIN LAB partners meeting
On June 17-18, prof. Katarzyna Starowicz, along with many distinguished specialists in the field of pain research took part in in a face-to-face meeting of the IT PAIN project consortium. This meeting was preceded by numerous subgroup meetings and a questionnaire study to reach the consensus meeting point.
Currently there is tremendous heterogeneity between protocols in preclinical and clinical chronic pain studies, leading to often incomparable data sets. In addition, clinical and preclinical study design is not well aligned, hampering translation of results from bench to bedside. This may explain why recent translational failures in chronic pain trials.
We strongly believe our brainstorming sessions and long discussions on the proper approach to the translational aspect of pain study will help us to overcome the heterogeneity of protocols in preclinical and clinical studies by improving trial design, and facilitate the translation of research findings into clinical practice.
Many thanks to Esther, Daniel and Bruno as well as the entire team of the Department of Anaesthesiology, Intensive Care and Pain Medicine, University Hospital Muenster, for the perfect organization of the meeting.
